quickly realized that .Joyce had some mental health issues beyond his scope of ministry and through his mentoring, Joyce was introduced to Barbara Adolfi, a licensed clinical social worker. Adolfi diagnosed Haley with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with severe depression (Battered Wife Syndrome); Substdnce Abuse and Addiction. Visiting with Joyce once a week since April, Adolfi found in Joyce a woman ready to face her addiction and the reasons that led her there, to face her fears and to look forward to a less self-destructive future. “It was a joy for me to see her blossom,” said Adolfi who advocated for Haley to become one of the first women to gain a spot at Gemeinschafl Home, a half-way house located in Harrisonburg.
“I was fortunate and blessed to get a spot,” said Haley who, while admittedly nervous, is energized by the prospect of this new program for women where she will be working in therapeutic community, may or may not have a roommate and will be attending regular support meetings. As part of the program at Gemeinschafl, Haley said that she will be required to save a portion of her earnings in order to be certified to move on from there.
