and dressing and gravy might mean to a family that is poor or homeless? Is it possible that such an assignment might make the young authors truly thankful for what they have?
Although we have changed mightily, Rappahannock County is still not McLean, or Great Falls or Potomac. This is country, not city. I know it will distress some readers, but there are still good people in this county who prepare food from hoof to table. To me, that’s about as simple and uncomplicated as it gets. And, it is part and parcel of what made and what makes this beautiful place so special.
And I, for one, think it is much better for young minds to know how the world works, or, at least, how things work in the country.
