Many online tools are available to help dieters determine their healthy weight, Dodge said. And hospital dietitians are also available to offer their expert advice, she said, pointing out that weight loss is very personal.

“The process is individualized and it’s got to be something that you really want to do,” said Dodge. “We try to find small changes that people can make. Weight loss is a mathematical equation — you have to bum more calories than you consume.”

Becoming more mindful and in time with your body is a key component to weight management.

One way to be more aware of what yoq’fe eating and how much is to begin a food diary, Dodge suggested. By writing down what goes into your body, you can better gauge calories and fat and likely find ways to cut back. If you’re not aware of what you’re eating, it’s difficult to pinpoint ways to improve your habits, she said.
