Fertilizer and Lime: Tall fescue is a very heavy user of plant nutrients, especially nitrogen. An annual topdressing with nitrogen is necessary when seeded alone. In mixtures, the soil should be limed and fertilized sufficiently for the legume that is to he grown in the association rather than for grass. Apply at seeding: about 400 to 000 pounds of 7-7-7 when seeded alone, or 000 to 1000 pounds of 2-12-12 when seeded with a legrume.
Time, Rate, and Method of Seeding:: Late summer or early fall seeding is generally preferred over spring seeding because there will be less weed competition for the young seedlings. Use . 12 to 14 pounds when seeded alone and 8 to 10 pounds yi mixtures. Fescue seed is similar to rye grass seed in size and weight, and, thus, easily sown through mechanical seeders"or grain drills.Summary
