ine snenanaoan vaney Writers’ Guild and Lord Fairfax Community College encourage public participation in their first jointly sponsored Literary Contest, prizes being publication, announced Professor Felicia Cogan today, faculty liaison for the Guild.
The Guild members, a group of aspiring writers, meet monthly at Lord Fairfax Community College to discuss their works and learn ways to improve their styles and materials so that they will ultimately receive recognition through publication.
The Guild members say that anyone of any age who does not make' more than half his income by writing may submit entries to the Contest in any or all of the following categories: poetry, short story, nonfiction article, and children’s literature.
Contestants should send a typed manuscript along with a self-addressed stamped envelope to Professor Felicia Cogan, Lord Fairfax Community College, Box 47, Middletown, Virginia 22645. Entries must be postmarked no later than May 20, 1978.
To insure anonymity during judging. Professor Cogan requests that the author’s name, address, telephone number, title and category of the submission appear only on a cover sheet accompanying the manuscript, and not anywhere on the manuscript itself.
Rec Center
Meeting May 18
There will be a special meeting of the Rappahannock Recreation Association Thursday evening, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Court House. Included on the agenda will be discussion of the possibility of building a swimming pool and tennis courts at the rec center.
All interested people are invited to attend.
