Tharp
Mrs. Alice Mery Tharp of Castleton died May 12, 1978 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. She was 65 years of age, and a native of Terra Alta, W. Va. though she lived most of her life in Rappahannock. She was the daughter of the late Armstead M. and Rose Smith of Rappahannock, a and a member of Massanova Penecostal Church near Castleton.
Survivors include her husband, Elijah M. (Pate) Tharp; four daughters, Mary Tharp of Casleton, Mrs. Rosie Whorton of Flint Hill, Mrs. Gladys Williams, Culpeper and Mrs. Frances Horner of Rhoadesville; six sons, William and James Tharp of Castleton, Jake and Harvey Tharp of Culpeper, Thomas Tharp of Edinburgh and John Tharp, Manassas; 13 grandchildren.
Other survivors include three half-sisters, Rose Witcherman of Falls Church, Virgie Scott, Culpeper and Frances Groves of Remington; two halfbrothers, Jack Smith of Amissville and Charles Smith of California. A funeral service was held Monday at Geest Funeral Home, Culpeper conducted by the Rev. Lindsay Savage. Interment was in Forest Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Viewtown.
Pallbearers were MacArthur Pullen, David Jenkins, Eulis Jack Smith, Junior Faulkner, Hushel Settle and Ray Compton. The family requests that memorials be made to the Massanova Church building fund.
