Results from the digestion trials indicated the energy in corn oil was approximately 90 per cent digested. The digestibility of the fatty acids in the com oil was constant over all levels of oil fed. The high levels of com oil had no detrimental effect on the digestibility of other ration components such as protein and minerals.
No digestive disturbances were observed on any level of com oil. Hair coats of all animals improved in appearance and all ponies maintained their body weights, he said.
While additional research is necessary before specific recommendations can be made, the use of fats and-or oils in horse rations looks promising. Huff said.
Horse Show Rescheduled
