Billy Wayland of Culpeper and Investigator William Faulconer of Orange traveled to Chicago on Sunday to identify Thompson and file detainers.
“We’re going to get him just as soon as we can," said Sheriff Peters on Tuesday. According to Peters, Thompson is being held on federal charges at the Metropolitan Corrections Center in Chicago for kidnapping taxi driver Wendall Smith. Peters acknowledges that Thompson has signed a statement but would not elaborate further.
Thompson and Simpson are charged with the capital murders here of T. E. McMullan of Mitchells and Mrs. G. E. Chambers of True Blue and three armed robberies, including a holdup at Mr. Jefferson’s Store in Sperryville.
