The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee last week agreed to a federal contribution of $1,250,000 toward startup costs of a veterinary school at Virginia Tech, Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson, a member of the subcommittee, announced.
The subcommittee also wrote into the Agriculture Appropriation Bill a $900,000 item to begin research work at the new Appalachian Fruit Research Laboratory, Kearneysville, W. Va., Robinson said.
Both prospective appropariations for the fiscal year beginning October 1 were urged in the subcommittee by the 7th District Representative, who pointed out that they would help to serve major needs of agriculture in Virginia and adjacent states.
The veterinary school money is intended as a matching grant for the funds voted by the recent session of the Virginia General Assembly.
