Livestock
Rappahannock livestock has become prominent in a neighboring state at fairs and state shows. Two animals, a Hereford and an Angus, from local herds have ranked among the champions in recent Maryland showings. A Hereford from the James F. Massie Meadow Grove farm near Amissville, sold to a 4-H’er in Maryland, was champion of that breed in the Carroll County Fair and was judged Reserve Champion of all breeds in the Maryland State Fair.
An Angus Steer from the El Rancho Grande Herd of Ray T. Cannon at Castleton was judged Grand Champion of all breeds from 128 head at the Carroll County 4-H Fair. The 1210 pound animal brought $200 per pound. A Westminister, Maryland 4H’er, Don Cooney, raised and showed the steerAnother
calf from the same herd was the Champion Angus at the Culpeper Area Farm Show.

The Sue Slaughter Group meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, October 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Reynolds Memorial Church. The guest speaker will be Miss Frances Roberts, a foreign missionary in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
