Pine boughs or a burlap screen placed near newly setout evergreens or broadleaf evergreens are good insurance in areas where the winds tend to be heavy in late fall and early winter. There are also commercial sprays available which, applied to the foilage of broadleaf evergreens, will slow down the rate of transpiration, Beecher said.
