The Virginia Commission of Outdoor Recreation held a public meeting at Warren County High School in Front Royal last Thursday, September 28, to get citizen comment on the final 1979 Virginia Outdoors Plan. Included in the Plan for Rappahannock are scenic river status for parts of the Rappahannock, Hazel and Thornton Rivers and scenic by-way designation for Route 729 between Ben Venue and Flint Hill.
John Davy from the Outdoor Commission emphasized that inclusion of Route 729 and three rivers in Rappahannock only signified that the Commission felt the road and rivers were worthy of further study and POSSIBLE scenic designation at a later date.
