Applications are now being accepted from high school seniors for the limited number of positions that will be opened under the summer employment program sponsored by the Department of the Interior, U.S. Forest Service and Izaak Walton League of America.
Virginia high school seniors who plan to pursue careers in the natural resources field are eligible for the job. Other requirements including the following: applicants must be 18 years of age by June 15, 1979 and must be willing to accept assignment ANYWHERE in the United States. Additionally, applicants must be willing and able to provide transportation to the job site and be responsible for their own board and room.
Positions which will be filled in National Forests, National Parks, a wildlife refuge or in a research laboratory include such jobs as lab assistants, forestry aides, fire guards, brush crews, survey teams and laborers. Attempts will be made to coordinate the position assignments with the specific career goal of successful applicants.
Persons chosen to participate in the program will be Civil Service employees with the corresponding benefits. Salaries paid generally are in the GS2 range of the government pay scale. However, it is generally considered that it is the practical experience gained by the participant rather
