Despite repeated statements from Davis at Wednesday’s meeting that the only question before the planners was whether Goode’s development proposals complied with the subdivision ordinance, the planners didn’t appear inclined to send a favorable report to the supervisors.

Chairman Barksdale appeared to speak for the majority of the commission members when he stated that approval of the Flint Hill subdivision would “disregard the wishes of the people of the county completely."

He asked if it was the position of county government that “we’re going to tuck our tails and we’re going to run” every time a developer threatens to sue. “Let them go and do it. I'm not that kind of man,” Barksdale concluded.

(On Tuesday, Barksdale announced that the planners would hold a special meeting on the Goode subdivision on Thursday, January 25, at 7 p.m. in the court house.)
