For some unknown reason this has turned out to be a Session to work on the independents. Another bill in the Agriculture Committee would have seriously affected our dairy farmers. It was troubling me. So I told the Patron, who also happens to be on the Finance Committee, that there was a delegation across the street headed by Mr. Lindsay Gordon of Orange, waiting to testify against it. He told me to run across the street and kill the bill as he was not yet ready to leave the Finance Committee. By the time I got there he was right behind me so he killed it himself. Another 500 batting average vote, but it should have been a 1000.
Bill Speiden of Orange testified on a resolution and did a commendable job, but the resolution was carried over while I was back voting on another disaster bill in the Finance Committee. What a day Wednesday was. Bound to lose weight.
We had a big hassle in the General Assembly over a bill raising the age from 18 to 19 on the purchase of beer. It was sent back to a Committee with an amendment stating eighteen year olds could only buy beer if they drank it in a tavern or lounge. They could not buy it at off-premises establishments.
The motivation behind this bill was pressure from Northern Virginia caused by eighteen-year-olds bringing beer to school. 1 am not sure we need this type of law telling our people what to do
