agricultural lands in their areas. Hard pressed farmers in designated areas would have the option to sell easements of their land to the state preservation foundation.
Vickery said the measure would keep good farm land in agricultural use by giving farmers a method of easing their financial burdens other than selling land to developers of residential or commercial enterprises.
After a period of 25 years, the farmer would have the option to buy back his land for whatever purpose he desired.
Vickery said similar legislation is already in effect in areas of Maryland, New York and Washington.
