That’s the winter theme song adopted by more than 45 million Americans. As energy costs have risen, people have been turning down the thermostats at night and burrowing beneath the coils to save on fuel bills.
‘‘The average cost of operating an electric blanket on setting No. 5 in a room at 68 degrees F. for eight hours is less than half a cent,” said William Neugebauer, an executive with Essex Consumer Products, a manufacturer of the blankets.
