Another bill I introduced which would increase the fine on tacking posters on highway signs and utility poles was defeated. There is already a law against posters on signs and poles but the fine is not as great as I thought it should be. So I batted 500 on those two bills. Others 1 have introduced will be coming up tomorrow and next week so I will report on those in my next report from Richmond.
We killed quite a few bills in the Finance Committee on Monday, but Wednesday was a real hang up. All carried over bills have to be dealt with this week and of all things, the Agriculture Committee and the Finance Committee were meeting at the same time. Four of us are on both Committees and they met in different buildings. I have no idea how far we walked going across the street from one committee to the other.
A particular bill in the Finance Committee was passed 10 to 8 to require the gas and oil distributors to pay their gasoline tax on June 30th instead of July 5th. This means a one-time windfall to the State of around $17 million. Distributors in Orange and Culpeper serve
