Highway Travel
Decreasing
January travel on Virginia’s major highways continued the downward trend which has occurred each month since last June. Travel in January on the state’s interstate, arterial, and primary highways was 2.4 per cent below January, 1979. It was the eighth straight month of declining traffic.
Out-of-state passenger cars led the decline with a drop of 7 per cent from January, 1979, while commercial vehicle traffic dropped, almost 4 per cent. Virginia passenger car travel was down only 1.1 per cent, however.
