Under replacement of vehicles. Bloomer includes two school buses, a handicapped vehicle and a used car for the f special services coordinator in the recommended budget for a total of $67,000.
In the category of school food services, Bloomer listed a breakfast program at the elementary school in both the basic and the recommended budgets. He noted that food services are funded entirely with state and federal funds—a total of $56,750. including the breakfast program.
Chairman Beverly Massie added that the breakfast program is not yet mandatory although the concept is strongly advocated by both federal and state food services personnel.
In heating fuel costs, Bloomer allowed for increases in price of coal to $107 a ton in the basic budget and $110 a ton in the recommended; for fuel oil, $1.25 in the basic and $1.50 in the recommended and for kerosene, $1.30 in the basic and $1.50 in the recommended. For the cars in the school’s transportation fleet, he allowed $6,000 for unleaded gas in the basic and $7,500 in the recommended.
Under fixed charges, the basic and recommended budgets carry a whopping increase of approximately $70,000—the exact amount dependant on the salary scale approved—for social security formerly paid by the state.
