The Rappahannock track season Is just around the corner, and this year’s girl’s squad has the talent and potential to rank high in the state.
Both JV and Varsity will be coached by Ann Spieker, Cathy Lowe, and Julie Stewart. Head coach Spieker plans to do really well this year but is afraid that injuries might hurt the team.
“If we can go through the season with very few injuries we will definitely be a contender,” Coach Spieker said.
The Varsity squad is strong. Rappahannock should excel at distance events.
Junior Ann Thomas holds records in the mile and two mile and will probably win most of her races. “I hope to make new records and do whatever I’m capable of doing," she said.
Returning at high jump is Junior Johanna Day. Only one girl competing in the District has beaten her. “I really think I have room for improvement and can jump higher,” Day stated.
In the hurdles will be Rhonda Wiley, who competed in state finals last year and expects another good season.
Discus competition sees the return of two state meet finalists, Donna Gore and Tammy Atkins. Both are throwing very well again this year. Mary Jordan, a sophomore with high potential, will represent RCHS in the shot put.
