More than half the mothers in the U. S. are working mothers and that age number is on the increase, according to Labor Department statistics.
At the same time, the number of child care centers is declining. This trend, as far as child care is concerned, has been reversed in Rappahannock.
For two years now, Sursum Corda School in Washington has offered child care services for working mothers. Until recently, however, enrollment was limited to children three years and older.
Now the school has expanded its program to include infants and toddlers from six weeks to two years of age. Under licensing requirements set by the Virginia Department of Welfare, classes are limited to a maximum of four youngsters with one teacher
