Since the curve of the vine indicates the basket’s form, Jeanne can't just go to the nearest honeysuckle bush and grab a piece. Instead, she has to visualize what she wants to create and then look for a vine that fits.

While the vine is still green and pliable, she molds it into shape, following the natural curve and flow of the wood. Then she starts the weave, the really hard part of the operation, according to Jeanne.
