In. new personnel. tb« recommended and basic budgets include a special services coordinator to oversee all special education programs with a salary of approximately $20,000. Both budgets include an additional teacher for learning disabled students who are currently attending Piedmont regional school.
In the recommended budget. Bloomer has two more positions at the elementary school, one for art and one for the gifted and talented program.

"If we hire three more teachers at the elementary school, where do you propose they’re going to teach?" asked board member Charles Eldred.
Teachers for art and the gifted and talented program will be resource personnel rather than class-bound instructors, Bloomer explained, adding that “internal adjustments" can be made in scheduling to allow for space.
For the LD self-contained class. Bloomer proposes in both the recommended and basic budgets that it be housed in a modular unit, included under capital outlay at a total cost of $20,325 in the basic and $20,775 in the recommended.
The recommended budget also includes four new aides: for physical education and guidance-library assistant at the high school and lunch room monitor and kindergarten at the elementary school.
