Local mental health clinics become responsible for the continuing care of individuals discharged from state hospitals. Pre-screening will enable the Rappahannock Mental Health Clinic to know which Rappahannock residents are currently in the hospital. This allows the staffs of both facilities to begin discharge planning almost immediately, thereby shortening the length of hospitalization.
Anyone seeking admission to a state psychiatric facility either for themselves, a friend, or a relative should contact the Rappahannock Mental Health Clinic at 675-3329. If the person is violent, or in some way a danger to himself or others, and refuses to cooperate, family or friends should contact the sheriff requesting a petition for involuntary admission and a warrant for detention.
The special justices, the sheriff, and the court clerk have met with the staff of the Rappahannock Mental Health Clinic fo work out smooth, efficient procedures. Dr. Vignola said, “We all recognize this as a difficult time for a person and their family, we’re all trying to work together to provide the best care possible.”
