Children and TV
Many parents worry about the long hours their young children spend watching television. They also worry about some of the programs the children watch. They worry, but they don’t do anything about it. Is TV a problem at your house? How many hours a day does your child spend “glued” to the TV tube?
Parents are just as responsible for children’s TV diet as they are for their food - tliet. • Parents wouldn’t trfink of allowing a child to eat his fill of candy. Neither should they allow him to consume worthless TV programs. They wouldn’t think of placing a refrigerator in the child’s room and allowing him to eat anything he wanted, any time he wanted. Neither should they allow him an unlimited TV diet.
TV is a powerful medium. It constantly sends messages to your children—and many of these messages are in direct conflict with the important principles you are trying to teach. There are, however, many fine educational and entertaining TV programs for children.
