Because the ice and snow forced the postponement of last week’s Rappahannock races until the last weekend in April, some of the horses to run at the Blue Ridge Hunt Point-to-Point Race Meeting on Saturday, March 8, with be running for the first time this year.
Some are seasoned campaigners from previous years, but some are novice horses, new to the timber or hurdle courses.
The Blue Ridge Races will be at Woodley Farm, two miles south of Berryville on U.S. Route 340. The Hunting Pace Event will start at 11 a.m. and the first race at 1 p.m. There will be seven races with the last race going to the post at 4 p.m.
The melting snows of last weekend will make the course a bit heavy going, but the bluegrass dries out quickly. Several of the fences have been completely rebuilt, according to William Gilbert and A. R. "Pete” Dunning Jr., co-chairmen of the races.
