Small tracts of land, including lots on steeply sloped hillsides, are Rappahannock’s most valuable pieces of property, according to Jerry Hall, appraiser from the State Department of Taxation who is conducting the county’s 100 percent fair market value assessment.
Hall was at Monday's meeting of the supervisors to answer question apparently sparked by constituents upset over values placed On their land.
Supervisor chairman E. P. Luke wanted to know how a wooded tract could be valued at SI,500 an acre and adjacent pasture at only S800 an acre.

Michael O’Connor, special arson investigator with the Virginia State Police, has been asked to look into Monday's fire at Blue Rock Farm that left Foxfire Ltd. Partnership’s barn in ashes.
