Tribute to Miss Garland Riley, who passed away Christmas Eve, 1910 Miss Riley's teaching career embraced three generations, originating in a one-room school at Five Forks near Woodville, Virginia, and ending in June, 1972, in the 30room consolidated Rappahannock Elementary School. She taught a total of 44V? years in schools in Rappahannock and Warren Counties. She graduated from high school in Amissville, Virginia, received her Normal Professional Certificate in 1932 and her B.S. degree in Education from Madison College in 1954.
A dedicated and devoted teacher to her pupils and her community, she was (and is) an inspiration to all the members of the Rappahannock Retired Teacher's Association who knew her and treasure her memory.
Since February is Heart Month, and Miss Riley was a victim of coronary disease, we thought this an appropriate time to honor her memory.
