66 more than the 326 birds which were tagged in that county in 1979. Botetourt County ranked fourth in the totals with 371 birds tagged. This was an increase of 79 turkeys from the previous season.
The deer harvest, also only preliminary at this time, represents an increase from the previous season of 5,094 animals. In the 1979 season a total of 69,926 deer were killed. During the recently concluded season the total was (as of January 23, 1981) 75,020. Interestingly enough this preliminary figure is again very close to the estimate predicted by Supervising Game Biologist Jack Gwynn.
