Motion To Fly
To the editor:
In the spring of 1979, another of those senseless, tragic murders you hear about too often occurred in Mexico. Two young people, Bob Coles and a companion, were traveling through the country, and Bob was shot and killed while pursuing theives who had stolen his backpack.
Bob happened to have been a very talented young man, a poet and a member of a dance troupe. The Last Minute Wood Company of Rappahannock. A living and very personal tribute was paid to him Saturday night in Warrenton. at Laura Crowne’s Moving Arts Center. His friend and founder of the dance company, Sally Nash, choreographed and had performed a memorial to her friend Bob, MOTIONS TO FLY.
Ms. Nash's work was a very free-form and imaginative fusion of interpretative dance. Bob Cole’s own poetry set to music and sung by Don Zuckerman, and occassional guitar segments performed by Phil Zuckerman and Larry Snitzler.
The leads in the cast Saturday night were sensitively performed by Laura Crowne, creating the character of Bob Coles himself, and Jeanne Drevas and Susan Ostrenga as his friends on the road and at home. Other members of the troupe are Maureen Day, Carla Eugster, Cathy Kiley, Laurie Marshall and Nan Reddick.
We have all had the need to express our feelings of grief and mourning when someone we care about is taken from us. How wonderful it is to have the ability to do so in such a creative, sharing way.
