5, 1976, announced the plans for a school survey to determine the numbers of children who would be attending school in the next few years. All parents who had children who would be 4, 5, or 6 before January 1 of the following year were to call the school and leave their names and ages.
Featured on the front page were pictures of the Jenkins Auction House, which had recently moved from Sperryville to Washington. An open house was scheduled for that Saturday.
The Village Beauty Salon advertised permanent specials in Amissville. There was also a frosting special, including shampoo and set, for $18.00.
A new postmaster was announced for Amissville. He was David Yokum of Sterling, Mr. Yokum had been acting as postmaster since the death of Mrs. Alma Nethers.
The News ran a picture of the dismantling of the old Amissville fire house. Cletus Prints was taking the old budding down for his son, William, after purchasing it from the Virginia Department of Highways.
Controversy continued to rage over the proposed Rappahannock Kindergarten, with several letters to the editor on the subject.
An article noted that Captain Peter H. Luke, son of retired Air Force Colonel and Mrs. E.P. Luke of Sperryville had been honored for outstanding duty performance in Thailand.
