Conservation, the new well and long awaited rains have put an end to Washington's water problems, at least for the time being.
Mayor Newbill Miller reported on Tuesday evening that the town's reservoir tank was full to its 100,000 gallon capacity. He attributed the increase in water reserves to decreased consumption by town residents, heavier volume than the original four gallon per minute flow expected from the new town well and the downpour Sunday night and Monday morning that brought the springs on Jenkins Mountain, primary source for Washington’s water system, back to life.
Miller said he will ask the town council at next Wednesday’s meeting to rescind emergency water rates enacted to off-set the high cost of hauling in water to the reservoir but emphasized that the emergency rates could be put back into effect if water supplies again decreased. "We still don’t want anyone wasting water,” tne mayor stressed.
According to Miller, he is continuing negotiations to purchase land designated by a gelologist with the State Division of Minerals and Natural Resources as the best site for another town well.
