Preliminary totals for the game harvest in Virginia during the recently concluded hunting seasons reveal that the number of turkeys killed increased considerably over the previous year. During the Fall 1980 Turkey Season a total of 10,720 birds were tallied statewide. This represents an increase of 1,604 birds over the same period during the 1979 Fall Turkey Season.
High number counties in the turkey harvest were topped by Bath County which recorded 442 birds during the 1980 season as compared to the 431 recorded in 1979. Buckingham County was next with a total of 416. This was 44 less than the previous year’s harvest when 460 birds were tagged. Rockbridge County accounted for 392 birds in the Fall ’80 season,
