In Rappahannock circuit court on Wednesday, Judge Shore Robertson revoked bond for Ernest Lee Douglas, 34, of Richmond, remanding him to custody in the Fauquier County jail until a commitment hearing set for February 7.
Douglas was originally charged with the malicious shooting of Peter Marx of Washington. The incident occurred on November 18, 1979, near the town of Washington. His capability to stand trial was questioned, however, and so Douglas received psychiatric evaluation, first locally and then at Central State Hospital and the University of Virginia. Under a plea agreement reached last November, Douglas was given a year's trial probation under a $1,000 personal recognizance bond and, among other conditions of good behavior, was required to continue psychiatric treatment on an outpatient basis. He also waived his right to a speedy trial.
