January 24
The Rappahannock Chapter Virginia DAR January meeting was held on the 24th at the home of Mrs. Ray Smoot in Culpeper, and was opened by the Chaplain, Mrs. Franklin Duncan. Chapter Registrar, Mrs. Helen Hawkins, gave a report on the importance of the country’s national defense and offered a thanksgiving for the returned former hostages. A word of welcome home was given for Culpeper’s Phillip Ward. Those selected to attend the state conference in Roanoke on March 17, 18 and 19 included Mrs. Walter Height, Regent; Mrs. Roy L. Back, second vice president; Mrs. William Burke, recording secretary and Mrs. Helen Hawkins, registrar.
Others present for the meeting were Mrs. Cary Thornhill, treasurer; Mrs. George Butler, corresponding secretary and Mrs. Jesse Hawkins.
The next meeting is scheduled at the home of Mrs. Franklin Duncan on February 14 at two o’clock.
