Mr. Chrisman had very detailed information on his background because of Hite’s importance in Shenandoah Valley history and because the Hite family home—Belle Grove—sponsors a Hite reunion every few years at which this kind of information is exchanged. What Chrisman did not know was that the same Sperry family that farmed, socialized, and intermarried with the Hites and Chrism ans may have provided the name for Chrisman’s retirement home.
