In May, attorneys for the NPEA and neighboring landowners hammered out an agreement which appeared to end a two year legal battle over the campground and forestalled a ruling from Circuit Court Judge Shore Robertson on the validity of the county’s zoning ordinances.
Under terms of the consent decree endorsed by Robertson, the NPEA is allowed to holds its annual 15 day camp meeting but only in compliance with conditions, one of which required that the campground’s septic system be sufficient to accommodate 500 persons. In response, NPEA trustees applied for a building permit to upgrade the septic system’s capacity from 600 gallons to 2,500 gallons per day but even with the expansion, the system is adequate for 500 people for only four hours a day, based
