RICHMOND—With little fanfare or controversy, the General Assembly appointed Loudoun Commonwealth’s Attorney Thomas D. Horne and Middleburg lawyer John P. Ryan Saturday as judges in the 20th judicial district, which includes the counties of Fauquier, Loudoun and Rappahannock.
Mr. Horne, 38. a Democrat elected in 1979, had no opposition and will begin his eight-year term on the Circuit Court bench July 1. He received 91 votes in the 100member House and 37 in the 40-member Senate. No votes and abstentions are not announced for judicial appointments.

Crusade Opens
With Coffee
The Rappahannock Unit of the American Cancer Society will kick-off its a'nnual fund drive with a coffee at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Rodgers on Saturday, March 27, beginning at 10 a.m. '
All county residents are invited to stop by Clifton, the Rodgers' home on Route 729, and enjoy refreshments while meeting this year's Crusade chairmen. Mrs. Ethel Bailey and Mrs. Rachel Aylor, and the captains who will be directing volunteers in the door-to-door fund raising drive.
In addition, guest speaker at the morning coffee will be Mrs. Fran Southall. Cancer Society District Supervisor from Charlottesville.
There will be no soliciting of donations to the Cancer Society at the coffee, according to Crusade organizers. In fact, no donations will even be accepted. The kick-off coffee is strictly a social get-together, an opportunity for the local unit’s board of directors to say “thank you" to the workers who will be collecting door-to-door in April.
