Carefully add silica or the borax-corn meal mixture until the flowers are completely covered. The stems may be leaned against the edge of the box.

Flowers buried in silica gel will be dried in about a week; the borax-corn meal mixture will take about two weeks.

Agriculture is Virginia's largest industry. In 1981 it generated between $5.5 and $6.0 billion to the total economy. Some 50 percent of the state's manufacturing work force is related to agriculture and agribusiness. Over $2 billion worth of agricultural products move through Virginia Ports annually. Of this amount approximately $320 million are Virginia farm products. Two out of every 5 acres of Virginia's major crops are exported.
These statistics become even more astounding when you realize that it all starts at the farm where less than 2 percent of the population of the Old Dominion works on 39 percent of the land area. There are 75,000 full-time equivalent farm workers on Virginia's 59,000 farms.
