Before fretting about “ruling forces" and OUR hunting heritage, let’s review some facts:
1) The headline in the January 14 issue of this newspaper was “Angry landowners want illegal hunting stopped.” Oldtimers participated in the jammed courthouse meeting.
2) The Board of Supervisors appointed Mr. Homer Henry, Mrs. Joyce DeBe'-gh, Mr. Jack Dwyer and Captain William Keim to a committee to make recommendations to solve the problem before the situation resulted in a felony or worse.
3) On February 4 the Supervisors endorsed the committees recommendation to equalize the deer season statewide and to prohibit shooting deer driven by dogs. The committees premises and single aim are clearly spelled out on page 2 of the Rappahannock News. I recommend it be reread.
4) On March 4 the Rappahannock News reported that the Game Commission did not approve either request so the Supervisors voted to curb the abuses by local ordinances:
a) Take the County Option granted by State Law to prohibit hunting within 300 feet of a road.
