“Miniincision
Surgery of the Foot”
Quite often I am asked about the new "mini' incision surgery for bunions and other foot deformities This is a technique that was developed in the last few years that does have some definite merit It consists of an incision about one half inch in length that is used as a window to correct the underlying bony problems A special type of instrument is inserted into the wound and the changes are produced through this window
There are a fair number of indications for this type of surgery It is important to understand that there is a significant portion of problems that cannot be repaired in this manner, because the structures have lo be visualized for change
If the mini-procedure can be performed there is usually less discomfort, less swelling, and the patient is able to return to shoes more quickly
