I he rabies epidemic that hit Piedmont Virginia last spring continues with a total of 60 cases reported to date in the area: 53 in Fauquier, five in Culpeper and two in Rappahannock, according to a release from the Fauquier County Health Department.
Immunization of people who have had exposure to rabid animals in Fauquier County now stands at 16—six for exposure to rabid cats and 10 for exposure to rabid raccoons. The latest episode of human exposure to a rabid animal occurred when a rabid dog was discovered in Culpeper County. This dog was the pet of a family living in the northwestern section of the county.
