The coolheadedness of a young rescue squad member added a positive note to the accident. A parent with four children who ride bus two called the News office to report that Sharon Scott, a senior at Rappahannock County High School and member of the Amissviile Rescue Squad, took control of the situation immediately following the collision.
"As you can imagine, there was a great deal of emotion shown by the children after the crash," the parent reported. “Apparently, this young lady kept her head and helped a great deal."
Sharon quieted the youngsters and then checked them for injuries before moving on to make sure the driver of the truck was all right as well. "She stayed calm and began providing assistance long before anyone else.” Stanley Dve noted. "For a high school student, she displayed remarkable poise and control. She dest/ves a lot of credit."
