Virginia State Park Campgrounds will open for the 1982 season on Monday March 29 and housekeeping cabins will open Monday, May 3. Hiking trails and picnicking areas will also open March 29.
In announcing the opening dates, commissioner Ronald Sutton said he wants to “end any speculation or fear that we might postpone the usual facility reopenings due to last Fall’s budget shortage.” A successful park volunteer program which began last October helped to avert announced facility closings and subsequent delayed springtime openings. The program will continue as long as individuals express interest in volunteering. Campsites can be reserved up to 90 days in advance beginning March 29 and cabins up to 51 weeks in advance. Campsites will be open through November 28, cabins through October 3. The minimum period for a cabin reservation is one week; the maximum is two consecutive weeks at one park. Only one* cabin reservation shall be permitted per family, per request.
