The roots get the water and nutrients instantly when the transplanting shock is lessened. If it has not rained a day or so after planting I check the plants and water again if needed.
This method not only conserves water, the plants seem to adjust to their new homes more easily. Remember to transplant on a cloudy day or towards evening.
Herb gardening is supposed to be a pleasurable experience and not a burden, so set your goals small at the onset. Grow herbs for flavor, fun and fragrance; you will have enjoyment from these plants for many years to come.
