O’Connor joined a long list of parents already helping with “fix-it” projects. “Our volunteer program has been a tremendous enrichment to everyone,” Harris emphasized.
The center’s staff and its board of directors have itensified their efforts on the Sursum Corda’s established fund raisers—the spring spaghetti dinner, 4th of July auction and fall talent show—and hope to bring in an average $1,000 ptofit from each event.
The next couple of months will tell if these extra attempts are enough to keep the center open.
“ ‘Sursum Corda’ is a latin term. It means ‘Lift up your hearts.’ And that’s what we’ve tried to do for the children and parents we’ve served for the last six years,” Harris said.
“Now we’ve tightened up in every single way we can. We’ve done it all because we care, because we want to continue offering a service we feel is vital,” she explained. “The big question is whether we’re going to make it the last inch of the way.”
