Robinson Aide Here Wednesday
Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson will send assistant, William W. Pifer, to Rappahannock County Wednesday, July 18.
Pifer will answer constituents’ questions of a federal nature, such as problems with the Social Security Administration, Department of Labor, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Internal Revenue Service, Office of Personnel Management.
He will be at the Washington Courthouse from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Farm Truck Exemption Passes
Congress passed June 27 an amendment to raise the exemption from the highway vehicle use tax from 5,000 to 7,500 miles annually for all agricultural vehicles. The amendment was part of the Deficit Reduction Act of 1984. It was introduced by Virginia Senator Paul Trible (R).
“It will provide a measure of relief to our hard-pressed farmers who truck their crops to market,” Trible said. “Hauling is not the farmers livelihood, it is simply the means of marketing their product.”
The amendment was endorsed by the American Farm Bureau and the Virginia Farm Bureau.
• Hiring Vets Is Goal
The Culpeper office of the Virginia Employment Commission has expanded its job-placement program for veterans this summer, the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) reports.
A “substantial” number of jobs are available, and area employers are seeking employees who have or can be trained in any of severid occupational skills. Programs also are available to assist in job training and placement of veterans.
Veterans can visit the VEC office at 110 W. Cameron St. in Culpeper. Contact Peter Mocarski, veterans’ representative, or call 8268117.
VEC provides free placement services to employers, too, who also can call for more information.
