More people in Rappahannock are working at more jobs, according to figures released June 29 by the Culpeper office of the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC).
VEC put Rappahannock’s labor force at 2,650, with 2,583 employed and 67 jobless. The unemployment rate is 2.5 percent.
By comparison, in February of this year, the labor force was estimated at 2,482, with 2,346 working and 136 jobless, an unemployment rate of 5.5 percent.
The construction industry starts picking up in the spring. Farmers start hiring again. People take on seasonal workers and keep them through the summer,” Jackie Cook, job service manager in Culpeper, notes.
