At its organizational meeting July 10, the Rappahannock County School Board voted unanimously to retain the officers presently serving the school district
Beverly Massie was re-elected chairman; Nancy Reeve, Vice Chairman; Thomas Campbell, Clerk; Robert Estabrook, Deputy Cleric; Beverly Massie, Piedmont Regional Board Representative; and Paul Nichols, Educational Television Representative.
The board voted to continue meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, but with an 8 instead of 7:30 p.m. meeting time during summer months.
Campbell reported on his discussion with the supervisors at their monthly meeting concernign construction of the Elementary School’s new roof. (The School Board had opened two bids at a special meeting June 26 with proposals fin* both flat and tapered roofs. Board members had decided to seek guidance from the supervisors on their preference, since the slope would add a considerable amount to the cost of construction.)
Campbell said one of the bidden, Martin Construction Co., had withdrew its bid on the tapered roof, leaving only one bid from Texas Roofing. The supervisors, he said, definitely fevered building a slope into the new roof but were uncomfortable with having only one bid.
The school administration, as directed, sent the roof construction back for re-bidding and will open the new bide at the school board office July 23 at 2 p.m.
Literary Loon
Superintendent Estabrook reported on the status of the literary loan application, still to be considered, he said, at the State Board of Education’s July meeting.

Estabrook explained that the procedures for selecting an architect for the high echool expansion, while covered by the public procurement act, were not the same as those for other goods and services.
No sealed bidding is involved, and the board is not required to interview interested architects. “This is not to say that interviewing is not an efficient means of selection,” he said. “Just that it’s not required.”
Other board members had suggestions for the selection process.
